A programme for an exhibition within Fortnum's Piccadilly store entitled, 'Teapots to Tapestries'.
Our brief, to highlight the patient and painstaking work that goes into each of these exhibits. Not only because of the sheer beauty of the result, but also because each piece helps to preserve ancient skills that would otherwise disappear for ever, skills that can produce something that a machine simply cannot.
Teapots to Tapestries is also a tribute to the craftsmen and women who dedicate their working lives to creating things of beauty. As well as learning and perfecting their craft, they often combine it with modern technology and innovative techniques to create something entirely new.
Most importantly, they each pass their skills on to the next generation. Several of the long-established firms that are showcased have in-house training programmes in which apprentices learn their trade in the workshop, supervised by master craftsmen and women. Each new artist is therefore able to bring to their work a wealth of knowledge and hundreds of years of experience.
